“A man of trouble who has severally (sic) taken the university management and governing council to court, and a lecturer who has received the greatest amount of warnings and queries for incompetence and negligence of duty.”
Victor Emmanuel Osodeke, a Professor of Soil Science, has newly been elected National President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU.
Platforms Africa reports that Osodeke has a running battle with the management of Micheal Okpara University where he works, prompting a movement known as Coalition to Save Micheal Okpara University (MOUA), to have once alleged; “his ambition of becoming the National President of ASUU should be check-mated,” describing him as “a man of trouble who has severally taken the university management and governing council to court, and a lecturer who has received the greatest amount of warnings and queries for incompetence and negligence of duty.”
Osodeke, however emerged at the National Conference following the end to the tenure of Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, promising that the struggles of the union for better funding of the sector and treatment of his members will continue during his tenure.

Osodeke, a Professor of Soil Science at the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia State, was the immediate National Vice President of the union.
Osodeke took over from Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi who led ASUU during a period it engaged the government in a long battle for a better funding of the sector, welfare demands and the call for the abrogation of the contentious Integrated Payroll Personnel and Information System, IPPIS.
Prof Ogunyemi tenure had the longest strike due to Covid-19. A member of the Save Micheal Okpara University, however, told Platforms Africa that the longest strike during Ogunyemi’s tenure will be a child’s play during the tenure of Osodeke.
“Just like you have rightly discovered in the petition we published in Amebo then, all students of the Universities in Nigeria should get set for a long thing.
“This is because the man Osodeke is a man of trouble who has severally (sic) taken the university management and governing council to court, and a lecturer who has received the greatest amount of warnings and queries,” he said after his anonymity was guaranteed.
