Ikoyi Club Suspends Billionaire Alakija’s Husband For Violence, Assault

The 72-year-old lawyer was suspended for one year over physical assault and abuse, according to the circular signed by Bamidele Ibironke, the Honorary Secretary of Ikoyi Club

 

Mr. Modupe Alakija, the husband of popular business tycoon, Apostle Folorunso Alakija, has been suspended from the prestigious Ikoyi Club in Lagos.

Platforms Africa reports that the 72-year-old lawyer was suspended for one year over physical assault and abuse, according to the circular signed by Bamidele Ibironke, the Honorary Secretary of Ikoyi Club.

The circular added that he was placed on a one-year suspension from the Club for physically assaulting and abusing a fellow member, conduct injurious to the interest of the Club, thereby violating Rule 9(C) of the Club’s Rule Book.

“This suspension takes effect from December 1, 2021 to November 30, 2022,” the circular bearing Mr Alakija’s picture read.

When contacted on the telephone, the Duty Manager of the club, who refused to disclose his name, stated that the suspension wasn’t made public because Ikoyi Club is a private club.

However, a check on Linkedin revealed the identity of the duty manager as Habeeb Azeez.

He added that whatever transpires between the club and its members remains private and would be made known to the public when necessary.
