A man, Hassan Azeez, has been arrested by the police command in Ogun, Southwest Nigeria, for allegedly setting his wife ablaze.
Abimbola Oyeyemi, Ogun police spokesperson, in a statement on Friday, said the victim’s father reported the case on October 22, 2022.
Oyeyemi said the suspect escaped after police officers were deployed to arrest him at the scene of the incident.

The police spokesperson, however, said Azeez was arrested on January 22, 2023.
Explaining the incident to the police, the suspect said his wife, a mother of one, refused to prepare food for him because she was washing clothes.
⁰Azeez. Inset: His wife“On interrogation, the suspect who claimed to have run away to the Benin Republic confessed to the commission of the crime but blamed it on the devil,” the Ogun police spokesperson.
“According to him, he asked the victim to prepare food for him, but instead of the victim to prepare his food, she was busy washing clothes.
“He stated further that he got annoyed because he was hungry and the annoyance made him to put petrol on her and set her on fire.
“When asked whose clothes the woman was washing, he confessed that it was his clothes.”
