God will deliver Nigeria, give us greater Lagos – CAN Chairman
Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has declared that it was comfortable with the candidature of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Senatorial candidate for Lagos West, Dr. Idiat Oluranti Adebule.
CAN Chairman for Lagos State, Bishop Stephen Adegbite, who said this at a meeting between Adebule and Christian community on Monday, declared that the former deputy governor of Lagos was the only candidate for West Senatorial District that has sought and had an audience with the body of Christ in the district.
Platforms Africa reports that Adebule met with Christian’s community at the Cathedral of Peace and Excellence, Methodist Church Street, Ikeja.
Stating at the meeting that Nigerians should continue to endure the ongoing Naira scarcity and should “not destroy our properties, whether by government or our own,” Adegbite said that by Saturday, “God will deliver Nigeria. God has said that Nigeria would be set free on Saturday.
“By this time next week on Tuesday/Wednesday, people will see that Nigeria will be delivered, and it shall be well with Nigeria. We just pray that God will give us grace to sustain this pressure on us. It is highly regrettable, but we are praying for better government, and we are praying that God will be with Nigeria come next week,” he said.
Asked whether the meeting was an endorsement of Adebule, Adegbite said; “I won’t do that, but i will say to you that we are comfortable with her, and we have listened to her She will be the first person to come and talk to us, and have interaction. You should know the meaning of that. It is people that you love you go to. And when somebody comes to you, you must appreciate as Africans, and also, as a religious leader, we are praying for her.”
On the gathering, he said; “It is about the stakeholder meeting. We have provided a forum for the senatorial candidate for APC, Lagos West, to interact with us and tell us her plans when she gets to the red chamber. And, she’s been able to speak to us in a wonderful way, and also, we have seen her as the former deputy governor of Lagos State without any religious bias. And, that is why we provided this opportunity for her to talk to us in the church for that matter. This is a church hall, and you can see that in Lagos, we are not sentimental about religion. Same thing in South West. We are one and beloved, and we are working together to get a greater Lagos, the rising Lagos that God will be with every one of us.
“We are going to mobilize our people on Saturday to go out and vote. And we will continue to pray that by this time next week, Lagos will celebrate.”
Asked about his message to Nigerians on the issue of naira and fuel scarcity, the CAN Lagos Chairman said; “Nigerians continue to endure. We should not destroy our properties, whether by government or our own.”
Responding, Adebule thanked the leadership of Christian communities in Lagos for the prayers and support yo her since her days as the deputy governor of Lagos state.
She promised to keep her age-long relationship with CAN built on integrity, trust, and service.
Dr. Adebule also thanked the body for providing the platform to share her ideas with uts members.
She described the session as fruitful and rewarding engagement.
“They prayed for us and promised to support us; their support is what we are counting on,” she said.
According to her, one of the responsibilities of a legislator is to provide legislative intervention to upgrade the educational system and ensure inclusiveness of the youth, women and every member of the public.
“One of the issues that should be looked into is the functionality of our education system. Is the educational system in our country really functional? Can it take us to the next level? Today, some people are leaving the country to study abroad because of the functionality of their educational system. We need to curb this by making our institutions compete favourably with those in advanced countries. We also need to provide social amenities like regular electricity and good road network, good internet facility and functional medical centres among others,” she said.
Director-General of Adebule Campaign Council Rasaq Ajala expressed optimism that the Christian body in Lagos state would support all APC candidates in the forthcoming election.
Ajala said: “The positive disposition of the Chairman of CAN and of course all the other people that contributed during the interactive section are pointers that we have succeeded in locking this place down for APC. If you go through the manifestoes of all the parties, you will agree with me that it is only the APC that has the manifesto that truly resonates with the expectations of the people.”
