Lagos Records 1,211 Disasters This Year

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said it has recorded an overall total of 1,211 incidents so far this year 2023, in performing it’s statutory responsibilities of disaster risk reduction, rescues and recoveries in the state,

Head, Public Affairs Unit-LASEMA, Okunbor Nosa, in the October incident statistics made available to Platforms Africa, said about 145 of the incidents were attended to in the month of October, 2023.

He stated: “Out of the 145 incidents attended in October, Truck/Tanker category was responsible for 64 incidents, comprising of 46 truck/tanker accidents, 15 incidents of break downs, 2 fallen tanker/truck and 1 fallen container incident.

“The Road Accident category recorded 48 (assorted) vehicle crashes, the Medical category recorded 12 assorted cases, while Fire Disaster category recorded 9 cases, comprising of 8 Fire Outbreaks and 1 Tanker/Truck.

“Other events category recorded a total of 7 incidents made up of 6 various cases and 1 Assault, while the Building Collapse category recorded 3 cases, comprising of 1 Building Collapse, and 2 Partial Collapses.

“However, while Oil Spillages/Leakages recorded 2 incidents, no cases of Explosions, Air Crashes, nor Marine incidents were recorded in the month of October Y2023.

“Data Analysis of incidents recorded per Local Government in the month under review reveals that the densely populated Alimosho LGA, with the largest landmass, recorded the highest number of incidents with 25 cases out of the 145 incidents recorded in October Y2023.

“Kosofe LG recorded 18 incidents, Ikeja 17, Apapa 16, Mushin recorded 15 incidents, while Oshodi-Isolo 13, with Surulere, Ikorodu and Eti-Osa LGAs experienced 6 incidents each, just as Shomolu and Agege LGAs recorded 4 incidents each, with Ibeju-Lekki and Ajeromi-Ifelodun experiencing 3 ìncidents each.

“Also, Lagos Mainland, Lagos Island, Ifako-Ijaiye and outside Lagos experienced 2 incidents each, while Amuwo-Odofin recorded 1 incident, where Epe, Ojo and Badagry LGAs suffered no incidents in the month of October, Y2023.

“Conclusively, data revealed that the Truck/Tanker category recorded the highest with 64 incidents, while the oil spillage/leakages category recorded the lowest rate with 2 incidents.

“Examination of incidents per Local Government Area reveals that Alimosho LGA recorded the highest number of incidents with 25 incidents in October, 2023, while Epe, Ojo and Badagry recorded no incidents at all in the month under review.,” He stated.
