“Why now when the man is dead and could not defend himself” “A crime is a crime and can be reported wether the perpetrator is dead or alive” Full analysis of the documentary and what Nigerians are saying
Controversy has rocked the documentary released by the British Broadcasting Corporation on the late Founder of the Synagogue Church of All Nations, Pastor Temitope Balogun Joshua.
Platforms Africa reports that the part one of the investigative story, by a programme of the BBC: “Africa Eye,” was aired on January 8, 2024. Other two parts will be aired in sequence.
Meanwhile, Nigerians including Omotuyi Mebawondu, a medical doctor and public affairs analyst, Sola Adebawo, and Olaleka, Oladapo, a lawyer, have, on Platforms Africa Forum, reacted to the documentary, holding different views.

Mebawondu who described the BBC as being bias, said that both TB Joshua and BBC are in the same “game of mass mind manipulation.”
“I think this BBC documentary has a lot of queries and biases .. It dwelt more on narratives of negativity about the man, using disgruntled members and disciples. BBC was simple working to justify the tag “Cult of TB Joshua”.
He continued; “Agomah showed the worst biases..that Joshua motive was to enslave white people because of past slave trade. What exactly did TB Joshua or his family suffered from enslavement to warrant such wild generalization? No doubt, TBJ could’ve been a “psychopath” enjoying his own cruise! He also claimed that all the miracles were fake without any evidence to corroborate such..Did we ever see a client 4 or 5 years post healing ?
“The other disgruntled disciple claimed she was sent to look for virgins. Did she find any? Can she show us some? What did TBJ done to those virgins.
“I had visited SCOAN those early days while still worshiping inside a tent. I had a one on one encounter with him. Why was I not hypnotized? As a young doctor then, I doubted his miracles and simply walked away. I still doubt those miracles even today, but was expecting a scoop from BBC..there is really nothing exceptional !
“Abeg make BBC leave me alone jare. Na all of them dey this game of mass mind manipulation ..”
Sola Adebawo, another member of Platforms Africa’s forum, queried the work done with the man dead and not being able to get a right of reply.
“After the man has died and is not here to speak for himself?” He wrote.
Olalekan Oladapo, however, expressed a different persoective.
He said in a reply to Mebawondu; “I have different perspective on this. Though your premise is valid and different from those reasoned that the dead could not be brought to justice for he would not be available for defence.
“My argument is unveiling this has a way of helping the society. While it is an allegation, it is a path to discover the truth. It does not matter the motive behind it or who does it.”
In the teaser made available on Sunday, about four women and a man were shown recounting their tales about what they allegedly went through under Joshua, who died June 5, 2021.
His wife, Evelyn, has since taken over the leadership of the ministry.
Joshua founded SCOAN, with headquarters in Ikotun area of Lagos State, in 1987.
He was born on June 12, 1963.
