Controversy has been raging and it is still, as Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, happroved the appointment of 76-year-old Prince Clement Adesuyi Haastrup as the new Owa Obokun of Ijesaland.
Prince Haastrup, a former deputy governor of Osun State, was selected following a contested process at the Ilesa West Local Government Secretariat on Friday.
Haastrup, who served as deputy governor under the late Isiaka Adeleke, the elder brother of the current governor, from 1992 to 1993, emerged victorious in the selection process conducted by the kingmakers despite an existing court order.
Earlier this month, Justice Adeyinka Aderibigbe of the Osun State High Court issued a restraining order barring Haastrup, Governor Adeleke, and other officials from proceeding with the election or appointment of a new Owa Obokun until a pending lawsuit was resolved.
However, Isaac Haastrup, the Public Relations Officer of the Bilaro Olu-Odo Ruling House, confirmed in a statement on Friday that Haastrup had been elected as the Owa-Obokun Ajimoko III and Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland, defeating nine other contenders.

The court’s decision follows a suit numbered HIL/117/2024, filed by Prince Debo Adeyemi and 10 others on behalf of members of the Ofokutu Royal Family of Bilaro Oluodo Ruling House.
Other defendants in the case, apart from Adeleke, include the Obanla of Ijesaland, Chief Folorunso Adeniyi, and 11 other kingmakers, the Ijesa Central Traditional Council, the Osun State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Adesuyi Haastrup, and the Osun State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters.
The applicants sought an order preventing Adeleke, his administration officials, and Ilesa kingmakers from taking steps to appoint Haastrup or any other person as the Owa Obokun of Ijesaland pending the hearing and determination of the suit filed regarding the stool.
Upon hearing the application, Justice A. Aderibigbe granted the reliefs sought by the applicants, issuing an order of interim injunction dated December 16, 2024
The order partly read, “ An order of interim injunction is granted, restraining the 14th, 20th, 21th and 20th defendant/respondents from taking steps regarding the presentation, nomination, selection, election or installing or appointing the 16th defendant/respondent or any person as Owa of ljesa land or Owa Obokun Adimula of Ijesa land or taking further steps as regards the subject matter of this suit pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice already filed on the suit.”

Earlier, Prince Kayode Adewale Arimoro the candidate of Arimoro Lineage within Bilaro Oluodo Dynasty had suspected fowl play, the Ijesha Kingmakers should follow the due process in the selection of the next Owa Obokun.
“Ifa Oracle must select who the next Owa is. That is how our forefathers did it. The Owa Ijesha is not for sale.
