‘Second Time In Months,’ Pope Francis Falls, Bruises Arm

The Vatican said on Thursday that Pope Francis was wearing a sling and that he had damaged his forearm in his second fall in as many months.

The press office stated in a statement that the 88-year-old, whose health has been deteriorating over the past few years, fell at his home in the Vatican’s Santa Marta neighbourhood but did not break any bones.

“This morning, due to a fall at the Santa Marta house, Pope Francis suffered a contusion on his right forearm, without fractures. The arm was immobilised as a precautionary measure,” it said.

The pope, who became leader of the Catholic Church in 2013, has been using a wheelchair since 2022 due to a number of health problems, including hip and knee pain and recent bouts of pneumonia.

Francis, however, is still very busy; in September, he finished a four-nation journey that was the largest in length and distance during his pontificate.
