DSS DG’s Wife Orders Governorship Candidate’s Arrest At Airport

There are reports that Aisha Bichi, the wife of the Director General of the Department of State Services, Yusuf Bichi, barred the Kano State governorship candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party, Engr. Abba Yusuf, from boarding a flight at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano.

However, there are conflicting reports on the arrest of the governorship candidate on the orders of the DG’s wife.

Reports had it that trouble started on Sunday when Bichi arrived at the airport only to discover that the access to the VIP Lounge had been blocked by those in the entourage of Yusuf.

The DSS operatives in her convoy were said to have stepped out to clear the clog, leading to a face-off with those with the NNPP governorship candidate for the 2023 polls.

The issue later degenerated into a direct confrontation between Bichi and Yusuf.

This, the reports said, made Bichi order that Yusuf should not board the same flight with her and should be arrested.

While Daily Trust quoted the spokesman of the DSS, Dr. Peter Afunanya, as saying that the report of the arrest was childish, The PUNCH reported him as having confirmed Yusuf was in their detention facility.

Afunanya was quoted by Daily Trust as having said: “Nobody was brutalised by the Service; we enforce the law within the rules of engagement.”

He equally described the report that Yusuf was arrested “is a baseless gossip that does not require the attention of the Service, a professional newspaper or a journalist”.

But The PUNCH quoted Afunanya as having said: “He is in custody.

“He was validly taken in for a suspected breach of security.”
