The captain of Nigeria’s national team, Ahmed Musa, has pleaded with fans of the Super Eagles to stop cyber attacks directed at his teammate, Alex Iwobi, following Nigeria’s loss to Cote d’Ivoire in the final of the just concluded African Cup of Nations.
Musa, who posted on his X handle, asked that fans should halt the attacks directed towards the midfielder.
He said: “Cyber bullying is not just a violation of decency but also a serious crime. It’s hypocritical to claim that football unites us while engaging in such behaviour.
“Losing a game is undoubtedly tough, but targeting a single player for the team’s shortcomings is unfair and unjust.
“We win as a team, and we lose as a team.
“Alex gave his all on the field, just like every member of our squad.”
Musa urged that instead of spreading negativity, genuine love and support should be shown towards the players.
He added: “They need our encouragement now more than ever. Let’s uplift each other and stand united, both in victory and defeat.
“Thanks.”

Iwobi deleted all his Instagram photos after he was dragged on social media by some Nigerian fans following the defeat on Sunday.
The Super Eagles were defeated 2-1 by the hosts, ending the team’s dream of a fourth continental crown.
Few hours after the tournament, Iwobi deleted photos from his Instagram handle.
He only left one video post.
The Fulham man also locked the comment section of the post.
The Fulham star featured for 79 minutes in Nigeria’s defeat to Ivory Coast and was replaced by Alhassan Yusuf.
