. How it happened, NEMA reacts as shops, goods worth millions of naira destroyed

 

A gas explosion has rocked the Iju-Ishaga area of Lagos State.

Platforms Africa confirmed, after visiting the scene around 9:55pm on Tuesday, that the explosion occurred at a gas retail shop destroying other adjoining shops and properties.

Some residents were seeing fleeing the scene of the incident that started at about 9:47pm while shop owners were scene panicking.

Platforms Africa further gathered that the fire left shops and properties destroyed.

Operatives of the state fire service arrived at the location minutes after the explosion.

Casualties were not confirmed as at the time of filing this report.

The Southwest coordinator of NEMA, Ibrahim Farinloye, who confirmed the incident, said, “People around Iju Ishaga should calm down and avoid panic. The gas explosion at Ogun Street, Balogun Bus Stop, has been brought under complete control of the Lagos State Fire Service.”

“It was reported that a store with a cooking gas cylinder exploded that after restoration electricity, an explosion started.”

“Fire Service has brought the situation under control completely”.
