Africa’s biggest group of solicitors, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), has inaugurated top lawyer, Barrister Oladapo Olalekan Idowu, and 19 Other prominent silks into the General Council of the Bar.
Apart from 20 members elected by the NBA, all Attorneys General of the states of the Federation are members of the Bar Council. They were inagurated along with the NBA representatives.
Platforms Africa reports that the Attorney General and Minister of Justice has earlier, according to a letter sent by the Solicitor-General of the Federation, Mrs. B.E Jeddy-Agba to the President NBA, Mr. Y.C. Makyau, given a nod to the inauguration.

The General Council of the Bar is a statutory regulated body created by the Legal Practitioners Act to make rules and regulate the Rules of Professional Conduct for Lawyers in Nigeria.

Oladapo, an ex-executive member of the NBA Abuja branch who is number 14 on the list, is a member of the Platforms Africa forum.
Other lawyers inaugurated include Aikpokpo-Martins Obaika, Agada Mercy Ijato, Igba Theophilus Terhile, Oyeyiola Durodoluwa Emmanuel, Bello Abdulganiyu, and Usman Joshua Enemali.

The list also includes Abdullahi Faskari Barau, Nduka Rapuluchukwu Ernest. Anizoba Obi Lawrence, Nwaeze Nnaebuka Onyebuchi, Anago Rapheal Nnamdi, Agi Anne Uruegi, Okwun-Kalu Dave Ndara, Lagbamue Israel Solomon, and Edun Olakunle Ogheneovo
Others are Akintayo John Oluwole Akinbiyi, Onwere Victor Chinonye, Maidoki Muhhammad Mahmood, and Agbaga Dannis Ejakpovwere.

Reacting to Oladapo’s inauguration, Adeola Yusuf, Team Lead of Platforms Africa, a forum in which the Abuja-based legal luminary is a member, expressed confidence in his ability to, together with other members, deliver on their mandate.
“Barrister Oladapo, a versatile lawyer and rights activist, is a resource person on Platforms Africa who, on occasions, has featured as the lead discussant on our weekly e-Discourse.
“We congratulate the NBA for finding such a patriot and humanist as a member of The General Council. Barrister Oladapo is an asset that will contribute meaningfully to achieving the mandate of the general council and to the development of the Bar Association,” Adeola Yusuf said.

“And, on behalf of everyone on Platforms Africa, an e-community of intellectuals, policy moulders, and opinion leaders in Africa, we say hearty congratulations to one of us, Barrister Oladapo Olalekan Idowu, on this call to serve the NBA at this high level and to contribute to the development of law practice in Nigeria, Africa’s most populous nation,” he concluded.
